At its core, there are two essential ingredients to a successful headshot: confidence and approachability. One without the other rarely works. Without approachability, you risk coming across as arrogant and haughty; without confidence, you come across as afraid or tentative.
As a professional headshot photographer, it’s my mission to coach you in ways to provide the best expression that will capture you as confident, approachable, genuine and an expert in your field. It takes less than a second to form an opinion of someone based on their headshot so you’ve got to make it count.
Take a look at the images attached to this post. Which one inspires you most? Which one demonstrates confidence AND approachability?
For a lot of people, getting in front of the camera is a scary proposition. When humans are afraid, our eyes widen — it’s that “deer-caught-in-the-headlights” look and it’s not something that is helpful for you to inspire confidence in others.
I’ve spent years perfecting the craft and I’ve found ways to get people to relax, all without saying the word “relax.” Each session starts off with some basic but important tips on ways to position yourself so you’re standing up straight (but relaxed) and you’re creating the best jawline possible (without the camera being shot from such a high angle that it diminishes your power and authority). We then transition to coaching you on expression.
I shoot tethered so you’ll be able to view the results in real time and we can make adjustments along the way. My aim is for you to look good, feel good and be stoked by the results!
